It’s been a while since we got a new release from Free Crates, the long awaited Capella project “2012: A Space Odyssey” just dropped last week. Don’t sleep on it…

DON’T SLEEP: Free Crates x Capella “2011: A Space Odyssey” [SNIPPET MIX]
Free Crates’ next release is the previously unreleased project by Capella (which was made in 2011 but is just seeing the light of day now) called “2011: A Space Odyssey” that will drop soon. Don’t sleep on this almost 13 minute preview…

DON’T SLEEP: Astronaft “Our Planet” [BEAT TAPE]
DJ Bloodbeats sent me the latest Free Crates release today, an incredible project by Astronaft called “Our Planet”. “Our Planet” also includes some fantastic collaborations with Anephew, Mr. Stuflov, Mr. Gnomi and A.B.S.T.R.A. that you NEED to hear. If none of these slaps make any upcoming mixes then you cats that compile them should run into the front door of the closest Apple Store @ full fucking speed. Don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: Screw “Live @ BarakObamaBar” [BEAT TAPE]
Free Crates & DJ Bloodbeats have done it again. This impressive instrumental effort “Live @ BarakObamaBar” comes courtesy of Screw from St. Petersburg in Russia. The Russian Federation has some serious heat if you didn’t know (if you’ve been following PIK for longer than 3 months than you’d know that already). Don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: Muc J “Strangestone” [BEAT TAPE]
Free Crates’ Muc J just dropped his “Strangestone” project a few days ago and I didn’t get to hear it until today. Salute to DJ Bloodbeats being on his job and shining the light on another talented producer/beatmaker from the Russian Federation. Don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: Floans Bitflip “Flashes” [BEAT TAPE]
Here’s another under the radar instrumental gem from DJ Bloodbeats over @ Free Crates. This jawn is by beatmaker Floans Bitflip and it’s called “Flashes”. Don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: Garimastah “Mind Games” [BEAT TAPE]
Free Crates drops some more heat on the masses, this time in comes from Garimastah. “Mind Games” is comprised of instrumentals of his tracks that were placements on commercial released projects and compilations with some bonus tracks thrown in for extra measure. Don’t sleep on Garimastah or Free Crates in the future…

DON’T SLEEP: Lingvisto “Heat Of The Plush Sun” [BEAT TAPE]
Lingvisto back. This time he drops a 15 slap beat tape called “Heat Of The Plush Sun” but I can’t write out the titles of my favorite jawns cuz all the titles are in Russian. Doesn’t really matter because the entire tape is fresh. Yeah, I actually wrote “fresh”. I’m old, B! Don’t sleep on Free Crates…

DON’T SLEEP: Camel Crock “Unfunkable” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]
Camel Crock is a Russian beatmaker who released his instrumental album “Unfunkable” via Russia based internet label Free Crates a few days ago. DJ Bloodbeats is the A&R there (who’s from Germany) and he does amazing work landing new projects and securing new talent. This is a brilliant follow up to his last Free Crates instrumental project “Jazzmansions: Preparation”. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Lingvisto “Kind Wood” [BEAT TAPE]
Free Crates Records is notable for flooding the game with multiple releases every time they drop some newness. This time is no different as I’m going to spend pretty much the next hour just on Free Crates jawns outta Russia. Here’s the funky ass “Kind Wood” beat tape (it says “LP” but all signs point to a beat tape aesthetic/designation) from Lingvisto. Listen intently and don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: Rbe “The Bear Tricks” [BEAT TAPE]
The third, final & most recent Free Crates release is Rbe’s “The Bear Tricks”. When I saw there were two other jawns other than it that I could do posts on I opted to listen to them first. I’m glad I did. I certainly hope that DJ Bloodbeats knows that he has either an excellent ear or he’s just brilliant at finding beatmakers/producers/talent. Don’t sleep!

DON’T SLEEP: Camel Crock “Jazzmansion: Preparations” [BEAT TAPE]
While I was checkin’ out what was the newest Free Crates release, I realized that I’d missed two others that had also recently dropped. The second offering being this, Camel Crock’s “Jazzmansion: Preparations” (it says just “Preparation EP” on the cover art, tho…). In any event, just enjoy this beat tape and don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: Sasha Ate “Music From The Left Hemisphere” [BEAT TAPE]
Those magnificent bastards from Free Crates have done it yet again! Here is Sasha Ate’s “Music From The Left Hemisphere” amongst some other nice jawns I recently slept on. This is dope, don’t be like me. Don’t sleep!
DON’T SLEEP: Funky Drummer “7th Sky'” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]
Yet another Free Crates release, Russian beatmaker Funky Drummer’s “7th Sky”. This DJ Bloodbeats cat outta Germany (or Russia?) who handles A&R for Free Crates is on his job. Keep it up, homie…

DON’T SLEEP: Stak “Люди Сувениры Intrumentals” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]
Yet another Free Crates release I really like. This Stak instrumental collection “Люди Сувениры Intrumentals” reminds me of many of the projects I loved & bought during the whole Electronica Explosion (1997-2000) that existed alongside the Backpack Era (1997-2002). Back then, Hip Hop cats were also heavy into DJ Shadow, DJ Spooky, DJ Krush, DJ Food, DJ Vadim, Roni Size & Reprazent, Goldie, Lemon D, Dilinja, Tricky, etc. I have no idea what the fuck Stak’s album title translates to but I know I like what I’m hearing. Go listen to it & download if you like but I’d prefer you at least pay a $1 for it.

DON’T SLEEP: Screw “Come Through EP” [BEAT TAPE]
I went out for a while after hearing about the passing of Gil Scott-Heron to let that news wash over me. When I got back home, I decided to get back to work doing what I do. I ran across this beat tape on the Bandcamp of German or Russian (?) digital label Free Crates (amongst others), Screw’s “Come Through” was exactly what I needed to hear at the time. I’ll post some of the other jawns later on but I have to do some writing on Bastard Swordsman this morning…
