DON’T SLEEP: DJ Skully & Chemo (AKA Telemachus) “Squirrelz With Gunz REDUX” [NEW PROJECT]

Back in the summer of 2007, I remember Dissensus (a UK message board where some of it’s greatest music minds and critics alike used to meet and discuss Ragga, Drum n’ Bass, UKG (UK Garage), Trip Hop, Grime, Dubstep, Broken Beat, Funky House, UK indie rock & even Northern Soul) went insane over a compilation mixed by DJ Skully & produced by a young beatmaker named Chemo that featured some of the best & brightest of the UK Hip Hop scene. That compilation was called “Squirrelz With Gunz”. You remember how crazy heads went over the P Brothers “The Gas” LP? Multiply that by 3.

Chemo (or Telemachus) hit me up to tell me that an unmixed & remastered redux version of “Squirrelz With Gunz” dropped today with bonus tracks. There’s an embedded player just below, but if it doesn’t work (and it didn’t!) I have a backup plan. Enjoy:

DON’T SLEEP: Willie Evans Jr. “Rap Games” (prod. by Willie Evans Jr.) [VIDEO]

Willie Evans Jr. is one of my favorite emcees/producers. He’s also part of the AB’s/Alias Brothers (FKA Asamov) and 1/2 of Dumbtron with another of my favorite emcee/producers, Paten Locke. Willie is dropping a project soon called “Billy Lotion” that consists of him rhyming over flips he made of Aloe Blacc’s “Good Things” LP. This song is called “Rap Games” which flips the Aloe Blacc jawn “Loving You Is Killing Me” and the video is below. Next after that, Willie Evans Jr.’s High Water Music LP “Introducin'” drops on July 19th. I can’t wait for that. You have NO idea…

DON’T SLEEP: Daimyo “Self-Titled EP” & “Experimentations” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECTS]

Justin Boland @ World Around Records sent me a track from a kid from Albany named Daimyo for Scrunchface Show consideration yesterday. I heard this track & I had to hear more. This led me to listen to everything on his Bandcamp page. EVERYTHING. You should check out his projects “Self Titled EP” & “Experimentations” keeping in mind this dude is only 18. Daimyo is a multiinstrumentalist/producer that’s been making projects since he was 15. Justin told me he uses live instrumentation, Reason, a Nintendo DS & some customized MPD controllers. DON’T SLEEP: Shuko & F of Audiotreats “Cookies & Cream” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

Today, German producers/beatmakers Shuko & F of Audiotreats dropped an ill instrumental LP called “Cookies & Cream” on SoulSpazm Records. Shuko has had a quite a career making slaps for a number of your favorite emcees and he and F of the production team Audiotreats teamed together over 13 slaps to show that Shuko can do more than make the dirges of destruction he crafts for AOTP, Vinnie Paz, Immortal Technique, Rockness Monsta (Heltah Skeltah) and Rick Ross. This summer theme instrumental project can be copped @ iTunes & Soulspazm Digital market. Cop it now. Don’t sleep!

DON’T SLEEP: L.A.F. “Lost And Found” [FREE EP]

DJ Rahdu @ Bama Loves Soul alerted me to this jawn last weekend. I heard it and I liked it on Facebook then I re-immersed myself  into whatever rappity rap shit I was dealing with at the time. I got hit up by the group’s producer Dru Carter last night and loved what I heard so I decided to help Rahdu spread this jawn around the internets real quick. Don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: K*Saba “Escape EP” [FREE INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

Karnan Saba is an instrumentalist/musician from New Zealand that makes hot ass beats under the name K*Saba. This amazing EP “Escape” is a perfect example, it’s short as hell (3 tracks) but it’s so damb good you’ll just rewind it and play it again right afterwards. Expect to hear at least one of these jawns on The Scrunchface Show next week. I found this on Finest Ego. Y’all need to diversify your bonds, for real…

DON’T SLEEP: Terrence Clayton “reLAx” [FREE INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM]

This instrumental project was brought to my attention by BananaEclipse who hit me up on Twitter @ ProducersIKnow. This is some smooth, laid back, chilled out, lounge mode type vibey production right here. This is what Lando Calrissian would play in his whip when he was flossin’ in Cloud City looking for female companionship and whatnot. Good call, fam! Don’t sleep on this one, y’all: Terrence Clayton “reLAx”….

DON’T SLEEP: Suzi Analogue “The Thing” (prod. by Suzi Analogue) & “The Program” f/Dudley Perkins (prod. by Georgia Anne Muldrow) [SINGLES]

Suzi Analogue is a producer/vocalist and performer that become one of my favorites on the beat scene in a relatively short amount of time. It goes back to her “World. Excerpts 1-9” release on Kenny Fresh’s Fresh Selects blog which led to her other well received early releases “3P”, & “NNXTAPE”. He first official release on Dopeness Galore is this single “The Thing”/”The Program” which drops May 26th. You can hear both jawns over @ Soundcloud (provided it’s embedded below) and cop it from Rush Hour. I can’t wait to finally hear that Suzi Analogue x TOKiMONSTA “Analog Monsta” project, either. DON’T SLEEP: Castle “Ditch Effort” [FREE ALBUM]

Castle has hit the wall. After two full decades of pursuing his dreams in the world of music he’s finally reached that breaking point where he’s fed up with the current way things are going. The thing about creative people is their feelings are is usually reflected in their art, “Ditch Effort” is no different. Castle produces and spits over his own slaps so he’s handling both sides of the creative process. You can easily relate to Castle’s narrative as he airs his frustrations of being stuck in the industry as a struggling talent while wack shit pervades the airwaves and lands magazine covers. I’d wanna leave the planet, too.

“Ditch Effort” is dope from the opening jawn to the final fadeout. I’d much rather listen to this then Kanye West “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”. And it’s for FREE? If I had a label I’d hit the dude up about giving this a proper release. Real talk. Go listen to “Ditch Effort” (and the rest of Castle’s back catalog) here. Don’t let the wack shit win…

DON’T SLEEP: Bamboo Bros (Dave Dar x Kurious) “American Jibaro” [PROMO VIDEO]

Bamboo Bros. (Dave Dar x Kurious) upcoming album on Benchmark Music “American Jibaro” will feature appearances from Pete Rock (“Beyond The Sensation”) & Talib Kweli  (“Let It Go”). “American Jibaro” showcases 12 tracks spanning 45 minutes that’ll become the perfect soundtrack to this summer. The album is stepped in the traditions of Hip Hop including digging for those old Soul records we heard at the block parties, cookouts and house parties back in the days. “American Jibaro” is as much a celebration of New York & the urban Latino experience as much as it is a celebration of Hip Hop and the DJ. I’ve been listening to this album for close to a year now and I can’t wait for the rest of the Hip Hop listening audience to finally experience it, too…
