DON’T SLEEP: Oddisee “The Blooming” (prod. by Oddisee) [VIDEO]

Tomasz Cibulla and Wojciech Drożdż of ZBS Studios in Belgium contacted Mello Music Group a while back asking them for permission to create a video for Oddisee’s “The Blooming” off of his album “Odd Seasons” (perfect travel album BTW). The end result is a gorgeous visual companion to a wonderful musical composition. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Shag “Flyrule” [BEAT TAPE]

So I’m writing this long ass diatribe about how much I hate “Watch The Throne” and I get an email from my boy & Team PIK member Shag saying he just sent me a link to a beat tape I might wanna fuck with but the “may” was capitalized. I was wondering “What did he make it out of that I’d not wanna fuck with it?”. I opened the email and I saw the beat tape was called “Flyrule”.

I clicked the link and it was a beat tape based on the music from The Legend Of Zelda games! I said “Oh shit! That’s ill! And told my brother who said “I thought of doing that when I played “The Ocarina Of Time”!”. I then sent him back an email full of swears (I black out sometimes) asking why WOULDN’T I fuck with it? End result is it’s already his most successful beat tape. I present to you all “Flyrule”. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Blame One “Dropping Bombs” (prod. by Coper) [SINGLE]

Chemistry Audio presents Blame One x Coper “Dropping Bombs” on a track that Funkmaster Flex wouldn’t drop the bomb on unless Jay-Z told him he signed him to Roc Nation. In any event, stop watching the throne & start listening to Hip Hop that ISN’T mediocre for a change. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Wax Poetics x East Of Underground Documentary [DOCUMENTARY]

My two favorite re-issued rare albums of the past 5 years are Drag City’s 2009 re-issue of Death’s album “…For The Whole World To See” and Wax Poetics’ 2007 re-issue of East Of Underground‘s album (If you actually tune in for #DiggasKnow on Twitter from Noon to 1:30 or 2 PM each Sunday you’d know that already). They made a mini documentary telling the story of this obscure Army band that formed in Germany on an Army base near the end of the Vietnam War by a bunch of draftees. One of the bands members has come forward and helped to tell the story of the greatest Army band ever, East Of Underground. Hopefully more members will come forward one day. Watch the Wax Poetics documentary here. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: NegroSaki “You’re Already Dead” (prod. by NegroSaki) [INSTRUMENTAL]

September 4th, 2010 was the last day @ Fat Beats’ old location @ Manhattan and several DJ’s (including A-Trak & Just Blaze) came down and did live sets where they used to cop their vinyl and came down to salute a spot dedicated to the preservation of the culture. DON’T SLEEP: [FLASHBACK] Alchemist vs. Just Blaze Live Soundclash @ Red Bull Big Tune in Atlanta (11.3.2009) [BEAT VIDEO]

As if seeing a Red Bull Big Tune late round beat battle isn’t enough of a treat you get to witness ALC & Just Blaze having their touring Soundclash live. Al played some of his hood bangers while Just ran through much of his Roc A Fella catalog for the people dem. In any event, it’s still dope to see these two giants of Hip hop production production share a stage together. This is a moment forever preserved in amber thanks to YouTube. Now, the Red Bull Big Tune has been suspended indefinitely all before it ever had a qualifying round in Boston even. Damb.

DON’T SLEEP: [FLASHBACK] VohnBeatz Beat Showcase @ One Stop Shop Producers Conference 2009 [BEAT VIDEO]

S1 AKA Symbolyc One of Strange Fruit Project is a hot name in Hip Hop & R&B production right now but I’ve been a fan of his since 2006. Back in 2008, he began uploading YouTube videos of his then 10 year old son who went by the name VohnBeatz. He was already surprisingly good but his improvement over the span of a year was astonishing. His YouTube videos got so popular that it led to VohnBeatz having a showcase at the prestigious One Stop Shop held by Sha Money XL.

Here the then 12 year old VohnBeatz blew everyone’s minds with his talent and charisma. He’s only gotten better since then, people. I retagged and posted this beat tape on Poisonous Paragraphs for him back then. He’s won a few beat battles and showcases since then, too. By the time he turns 16, he’ll be a MONSTER. Salute great parenting and humble kids with their heads on straight. God bless. Don’t sleep!

DON’T SLEEP: [FLASHBACK] Exile Flips “A Milli” On His MPC 2000 XL [CLASSIC BEAT VIDEO]

Exile’s live flip of Lil’ Wayne “A Milli” on his MPC 200o XL was big news on the Hip Hop blogosphere when he recorded  it and uploaded it to YouTube back in late 2008. Later on he made it part of his live performances, this was all before Araab Muzik began doing his live MPC sets and sadly enough claiming that no one was doing it before him on Twitter last year. I’m almost 36 so I know better. in any event, enjoy seeing this master of the MPC work. I’d like to see him & Araab Muzik live demoing back to back like how Just Blaze & The Alchemist did on their recent Soundclash Tour. Don’t sleep!.
