DON’T SLEEP: Grap Luva “Neva Done” & “Work It Out” (Snippets) (prod. by Kev Brown & Joc Max) [SINGLES]
The homie Grap Luva has a 12″ EP dropping soon on Redefinition Records/Fat Beats (also distributes Slice Of Spice) in the near future. On said 7″ will be the Kev Brown produced “Neva Done” and the Joc Max produced & Damu The Fudgemunk recorded opus “Work It Out”. In addition, we’ll get some more jawns and Grap Luva instrumentals. Salute to Redefinition Records, Slice Of Spice & Grap Luva’s own G.A3 Music Werks. DON’T SLEEP!
World renowned DJ and producer extraordinaire K Def has recently released a new 3 beat 7″ via Redefinition Records (which is now available via iTunes) & Fat Beats and he’s breaking down how he constructed the Pete Rock revisit of “For Pete’s Sake” called “For Def’s Sake” in the video just below. Everything was remade/played and no samples were involved. Watch a master at work (no Kenny Dope). Look forward to more material dropping from K-Def on Redefinition Records in the near future. DON’T SLEEP!
September 4th, 2010 was the last day @ Fat Beats’ old location @ Manhattan and several DJ’s (including A-Trak & Just Blaze) came down and did live sets where they used to cop their vinyl and came down to salute a spot dedicated to the preservation of the culture. Here’s the world famous turntablist, party rocker and producer DJ Scratch on the wheels of steel. Enjoy…
DON’T SLEEP: Crown Royale (Buff1 x DJ Rhettmatic) f/Eric Bobo “Say What” (prod. by DJ Rhettmatic) [VIDEO]
Here’s the new video for Buff1 (Jamall Bufford) and DJ Rhettmatic jawn “Say What” featuring Eric Bobo, the percussionist for Cypress Hill off the recent A Side Worldwide/Fat Beats “Crown Royale” LP. Don’t sleep…
Legendary producer & DJ K-Def has recently partnered with Redefinition Records and his first release on the label will drop August 9th, 2011. The 12″ will feature the tracks “For Def’s Sake”, “Birds Flying High” & the B side (which I’ll be showcasing in this post) “Times Change”. This free remix EP involving one of the greatest and most sampled guitarists ever just dropped recently featuring the talents of 14KT, Dabrye, Astronote, Nick Speed, Shigeto, Mayer Hawtorne, Magestik Legend and others alongside the genius of Dennis Coffey. You need this in your lives so just go here and thank me later. Don’t sleep…
One of the best (if not THE best) albums of 2010 was “Marcberg”. It’s a masterpiece, lyrically, thematically, sonically and the execution was pretty much flawless. There was a vinyl only “Marcberg EP” that featured some of the instrumentals a while back but now you can cop all the “Marcberg” instrumentals without fear that Dart Adams will send a team of technologically savvy ninjas to your rest so they can stand you up as a punch you in the face for trying to make your own instrumentals. It happens. Cop the “Marcberg Instrumentals” from either Amazon or iTunes. Don’t sleep!
One of the best albums of 2010 was Eternia & MoSS’ Fat Beats release “At Last”, hands down. Now they’ve finally dropped MoSS’ insane instrumentals via iTunes so you can finally possess those slaps that Eternia spit hot fiyah over legally. We all know that the most far fetched scenario is some zealous instrumentals loving Just Blaze mad scientist cat could’ve possibly used ProTools to meticulously digitally scrub Eternia’s vocals out and just leave the instrumentals.
In which case, I’d want to commend him for his brilliance and shake his hand and wanna punch you him the face for erasing Eternia’s vocals simultaneously. I’d feel really conflicted about that. I’m pretty sure if E’s reading this she might say something to the effect of “Aww, Dart! That’s sweet…I think”. In any event, the “At Last” instrumentals are available right now via iTunes. Cop ’em. Don’t sleep & salute the homie Sav One!
The lead single from Willie Evans Jr.’s long awaited debut LP “Introducin'” which drops July 19th, 2011 on High Water Music is the infectious “Fisbawdup”. It’s like something that DOOM, Madlib or Dilla would’ve cooked up as an album track. I can’t wait to hear this entire jawn. Pre-order “Introducin'” from Fat Beats. DON’T SLEEP!
The lead single from the upcoming Union (AKA Union Analogtronics) LP is titled “Wings” and features eLZhi. That alone is reason enough to check it out. Why lie? Parisian production duo Union (OJ & Gold) just signed to Fat Beats and Union’s debut “Analogtronics” is due in September per my understanding. Enjoy:
DON’T SLEEP: Random Axe (Sean Price x Guilty Simpson x Black Milk) “Random Call” (prod. by Black Milk) [VIDEO]

DON’T SLEEP: J-Live “No Time To Waste” (prod. by Diamond D) & “Watch Sun Watch” f/ YC The Cynic [SINGLE]
The lead single from the new J-Live LP “S.P.T.A (Said Person Of That Ability)” that drops August 23, 2011 is the Diamond D produced banger “No Time To Waste” and the infectious B side “Watch Sun Watch” featuring up & comer YC The Cynic. Both tracks and the instrumentals are available for stream and purchase via J Live’s Bandcamp and for purchase via iTunes. Don’t sleep on it!

DON’T SLEEP: Trinity (A.G. x Sadat X x DJ Jab) “20 In” (co-prod. by Kris The Katalyst & DJ Jab ) [VIDEO]
The first time I ever heard about the trio of A.G. (D.I.T.C.) , Sadat X (Brand Nubian) & DJ Jab (Fat Beats) called Trinity was back in 2009. Since then they’ve dropped a tribute to Grandmaster Roc Raida, a tribute song to the birthplace of Hip Hop called “The Bronx” and a song about longevity in the discipline of Hip Hop called “20 In”. The video is below and expect a Trinity LP on Fat Beats in late 2011. That explains why A.G. & Sadat X were chillin’ around Fat Beats last month on Record Store Day, huh? *Smacks forehead*
DON’T SLEEP: Kaimbr x Kev Brown “Army Fatigue Rap” (Damu REDEF Remix) (prod. by Damu The Fudgemunk) [SINGLE]
We played this jawn on the last episode of The Scrunchface Show. We had the full capacity amount of listeners allowed on our bandwith before our server crashes and heads were asking where to find this jawn. It’s here! It’s here! It’s here! © Common. It’s available now on 7″ vinyl and you can cop the full LP on green vinyl. Get it online. Cop it in physical form. Enjoy.
The Smoking Section’s The Backbeat features an interview with Black Milk as he discusses his live show and how he brought that into the studio for the creation of his last project “Album Of The Year”. If you’ve never either seen footage of Black Milk, Daru Jones & AB live or been to a show of theirs then you’re losing out.
This the the lead single & video for the upcoming Neek The Exotic & Large Professor LP “Still On The Hustle” that’s set to drop via Fat Beats on May 17th. Let’s not forget about the “Backs N’ Necks EP” or any of those Neek The Exotic 12″s. You can pre-order the CD or the vinyl from Fat Beats’ newly redesigned website right now. Enjoy the video below:

If you haven’t purchased Eternia & MoSS’ album “At Last” then I encourage you to go find it either online from one of several digital marketplaces or go cop the physical copy wherever possible. Not only does MoSS do nothing but provide the perfect sonic backdrop for Eternia’s bars to bring to life but her verses actually keep it realer than those that claim to by rhyming about their past exploits. In “To The Future”, Eternia tells stories about her past involving her life, sexual abuse & past relationships that may inspire others that have gone through the same or similar things to conquer their demons. Below are the visuals for “To The Future”. Enjoy:
