DON’T SLEEP: Planet Asia x Madlib “Cracks In The Vinyl” [NEW PROJECT]

Planet Asia x Madlib came up with an EP to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Stones Throw Records. The project was recorded in Germany during the Cali Agents (Rasco & Planet Asia) European Tour. The EP is called “Cracks In The Vinyl”. All beats by Madlib. All bars by Planet Asia. I just got this in my inbox about an hour ago. Don’t sleep!

DON’T SLEEP: Dam-Funk “Spiritual Flight” [MIX]

This was originally a mix podcast from back in 2009  for Stones Throw but now Dam Funk has liberated it and here it is uncut and unmixed. Each song is accounted for in this mix of Boogie Funk infused Gospel music, the overwhelming majority of which I’ve never heard before. This is incredible so don’t sleep on it. Master Blazter forever!

DON’T SLEEP: Jonti f/The Stepkids & Illa J “The Days Have Turned” (prod. by Jonti) [SINGLE]

This brilliant unmixed Stones Throw exclusive 5 minute long opus “The Days Have Turned”  features newly signed producer Jonti, band The Stepkids and producer/emcee/vocalist Illa J. Don’t sleep. This is dope as hell. If ANYONE can figure out why I can’t embed SoundCloud anymore I’d love to know why…

DON’T SLEEP: M.E.D. “Blaxican” (prod. by Madlib) [VIDEO]

“Blaxican” is the next offering from what is shaking out to be one of the best albums of 2011, M.E.D.’s “Classic”. The Madlib produced jawn addresses the Black/Mexican strife that exists and sometimes leads to senseless violence in California and elsewhere. As a Blacktino I’m saddened that these things still occur today. Don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: M.E.D. “Classic” [NEW UPCOMING ALBUM]

On November 1st, 2011 M.E.D. AKA Medaphoar’s new Stones Throw LP “Classic” will be available in stores and on every digital music marketplace. Judging by what I’ve heard of “Classic” thus far the album may live up to it’s rather ambitious title. It boasts quite a lineup of features and producers, guest bars come courtesy of Aloe Blacc, Planet Asia, Kurupt, Talib Kweli, Oh No, Hodgy Beats & Pok. Production was handled by Madlib (Supreme Team, The Professionals), Oh No (The Professionals), The Alchemist (Step Brothers, Gangrene), Georgia Anne Muldrow and Karriem Riggins (Supreme Team). It’s 14 tracks that maybe the definition of ill.

You can hear snippets of “Classic” and pre-order it directly from Stones Throw. You can also pre-order it from Fat Beats (2LP & 3LP + instrumentals), UGHH (CD, 2LP or 3LP + instrumentals), Amazon or iTunes. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Mochilla “DJ Dusk’s Root Down Soundclash” [TRAILER]

If you haven’t seen Mochilla’s DVD “DJ Dusk’s Root Down Soundclash” yet then allow me to introduce you to it now. Madlib faces off against Cut Chemist. His brother Oh No battles Exile and Thes One has a spirited clash with Will.i.am. If you’re a fan of music in general and especially Hip Hop I don’t see how you can go another day without owning it. Cop it from either the Stones Throw store, Amazon or just cop it directly from Mochilla. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Steve Arrington x Dam-Funk “Goin’ Hard” (prod. by Dam-Funk) [SINGLE]

I saw Dam-Funk perform in Allston, MA last year and he did all his joints from “Toeachizown” in addition to spinning some classics. Then he played this song “Goin’ Hard” he was working on with the frontman of Slave Steve Arrington that he claimed would be dropping soon on Stones Throw. After the show,  I talked to Dam and asked him how the collab came about and when to expect to cop it. He said he was hoping for it to be out before 2010 was up. It’s July 2011, I just posted it on my site and it was worth the wait to hear it again. Don’t sleep!

DON’T SLEEP: Jonti “Firework Spraying Moon” (prod. by Jonti) [SINGLE]

I was listening to NTS Radio earlier because the homie S Type had a live set where he played some exclusives. After his set was over I heard an incredible song from someone named Jonti that the DJ said was available for free on the Stones Throw site. This sounds like the type of track you put in the score of an indie movie. Once I found it, I played it for 30 minutes straight to get it out of my system so I could finally make this post. His “Firework Spraying Moon”/”Begone Slumber” 7″ drops in August but his LP “Twirligig” doesn’t come out until the Fall. There’s a video for it as well. Enjoy (or don’t)…

DON’T SLEEP: Random Axe (Sean Price x Guilty Simpson x Black Milk) “Chewbacca” (prod. by Black Milk) [SINGLE]

DON’T SLEEP: Oh No “May Beats” [INSTRUMENTALS]

Back in May, Oxnard’s own Oh No AKA Dr. No AKA The Disrupt & half of Gangrene (w/The Alchemist) and The Professionals (w/Madlib) dropped a few beats for $1 each on his Bandcamp page all throughout May. They were called “All Day Long”, “Medieval Times”, “The Purity” & “The Dungeons”. Don’t sleep on them!

DON’T SLEEP: Looping presents Yesterday’s New Quintet “Angles Without Edges Revisited” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

10 years ago, Stones Throw released a Madlib LP under the new Yesterday’s New Quintet called “Angles Without Edges”. That very same album was one of my favorite releases of the 00’s. Today, I discovered that someone named/called Looping had gone and remixed it. “SACRILEGE!” I thought to myself, then I heard it and thought “Hey, this is pretty damb good. Looping can live…”. Go stream Looping presents Yesterday’s New Quintet “Angles Without Edges Revisited” right damb now…

DON’T SLEEP: Random Axe (Sean Price x Guilty Simpson x Black Milk) “Random Call” (prod. by Black Milk) [SINGLE]

Random Axe’s next single (they’re NOT leaks, people. Leaks don’t have cover art & aren’t provided in links endorsed by the artists’ own record label. Fuck outta here with that!) is the eerie and foreboding “Random Call”. As someone that’s been playing this album for months now (I’m using the original cover art on my iPod Touch) I can imagine the torture you’re all going through waiting to hear the full project. I guarantee you it will all be worth it. In any event, here’s “Random Call”. You’ve heard “Monster Babies”, “The Hex” & now “Random Call”. There’s records that are so much more ridiculous than these still left on the album, too. Cop “Random Axe” June 14th. Don’t make me track your IP addresses, find you all individually then put your grandpa into a kimura because you didn’t….

DON’T SLEEP: Random Axe (Sean Price x Guilty Simpson x Black Milk) “The Hex” (prod. by Black Milk) [VIDEO]

DON’T SLEEP: Random Axe (Sean Price x Guilty Simpson x Black Milk) “The Hex” [SINGLE]

The Random  Axe LP will drop June 14th, it’s April 20th and “The Hex” has been slated as the 1st official single from the upcoming project as evidenced by the fact you can now purchase “The Hex” via iTunes. The first song that was leaked from the project way back in 2009 was “Monster Babies” (which is on the album) and now anticipation for this project should be through the damb roof. Let’s go!

His Stones Throw album drops on April 5th, 2011 but begins shipping today. Go to the Stones Throw site to hear previews and/or pre-order it. Also, if you’d like a J.
