DON’T SLEEP: Strange Fruit Project “A Dreamer’s Journey” [NEW PROJECT]

This reminds me of the first time I ever heard the lead single off Strange Fruit Project’s debut LP “The Healing” when I was on Okayplayer back in the days and how blown away I was by it. Not too long afterwards, I can recall hearing the album and thinking to myself that two groups that I heard that year via OKP (Tanya Morgan & Strange Fruit Project) had serious potential to be among my favorite groups much in the way Little Brother had become. Five years later and I feel like that feeling I initially had was for good reason…

I’m often critical of music in this modern age because too many people accept mediocrity. This is FAR from mediocre music, it’s extraordinary. This is the kind of music that inspires me to write and gives me hope that somewhere in my Gmail inbox I’m going to hear something that will give me another “The first time I ever heard…” story 5 years from now. Salute Symbolyc One, Myth & Myone. Shout out to VohnBeatz (I know your voice when I hear it!). Cop “A Dreamer’s Journey” and don’t sleep!

DON’T SLEEP: A.Dd+ f/Mz. Fortune “Getting Far” (prod. by PicnicTyme) [SINGLE]

I typically don’t embed Bandcamp links (because I’m a dickhead) but after hearing the latest PicnicTyme produced A.Dd+ jawn featuring Mz. Fortune I thought I should rethink my original plan of action. These cats continue to impress me following the release of “When Pigs Fly” with the release of “Jumper Cables” & “Freakquency” in recent months. Salute to Rosalinda. A.Dd+ (the plus is silent) hoe! DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Danny Brown “Blunt After Blunt” (prod. by SKYWLKR) [SINGLE]

The homie Danny Brown recently dropped another jawn he did with SKYWLKR via Twitter last night. I would’ve posted it then but for some odd reason the WiFi in my house wouldn’t work with either my G4’s or my iPod Touch. Only my brother’s MacBook & his iPhone. That’s a sign if there ever was one. In any event, here’s some new Danny Brown, “Blunt After Blunt”. Enjoy:

DON’T SLEEP: !llmind “Behind The Curtain” [NEW INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM]

The homie !llmind first appeared on my radar when he used to post on UGHH.com and when he produced the classic track “Remind My Soul” for hometown hero Akrobatik. He’s continued to make heatrocks throughout the better part of a decade for a laundry list of my favorite artists and I kept up with his output over the years via Okayplayer & Rappers I Know.

His new instrumental LP “Behind The Curtain” drops digitally and physically on Tuesday via Nature Sounds along with the audio stems from each track included. There was a remix contest involved with this album & below is part one of a promotion video series in which !llmind tells his back story. I met dude in Brooklyn @ the Fat Beats pop up shop for Record Store Day & apologized for never making it to one of his B.L.A.P. events before he rocked. I heard the album, it’s outraaaaaaaaaaaageeous! © Lionel Richie. Cop it!
