DON’T SLEEP: Digital Hustle “The Ghostface Beat Tape” [BEAT TAPE]

Gadget @ Digital Hustle Films just orchestrated and facilitated an ambitious project where he got several of the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia) area’s best and brightest beatmakers and producers to submit slaps inspired by Ghostface Killah and his back catalog/production aesthetic/ouevre. In the end, there are 28 beats (including one from Gadget himself) and the list of contributors is impressive: Kev Brown, Roddy Rod, yU, Kaimbr,  K. Murdock, Koyaki, Judah, Nick Tha 1da, J-$crilla, Grussle, Soulful!, Jon Laine, Pete Twist, Hec Dolo, Maverick, Praise, Solograph and many more. DON’T SLEEP: Lex Luthorz “The Incredible Adventures of Soul Villain & Friends: Soultape” [NEW PROJECT/BEAT TAPE]

Lex Luthorz dropped an ambitious hybrid beat tape and concept album using soul samples from Blaxploitation film soundtracks and classic Soul sources. It’s 38 individual musical spots divided into 7 scenes totaling an hour of listening time which works really well except for a few problems. When you download said project from HipHopComesFromSoul.com, it unfolds into a clusterfuck that makes you wanna pull your hair out (in my case it made me wanna grow some hair THEN pull it out).

The project unzips into your desktop in individual tracks (including press information, contact information and album artwork) and if you put these items into a folder then try to add them to your iTunes, it completely tagged wrongly and it’s out of sequence. How can you LISTEN to the project and enjoy it if you have to do 30 minutes of work beforehand? I’ve listened to it and it’s dope so as a favor to both Lex Luthorz and the readers of Producers I Know (since it’s almost Christmas), I’ve re-packed & retagged this project so it’s all in order and unzips into a folder for no headaches. It will hit iTunes, Amazon and other music marketplaces some time in January so enjoy. Don’t sleep!
