DON’T SLEEP: Self Scientific “Trials Of The Blackhearted EP” (prod. by DJ Khalil) [FREE DOWNLOAD]

The long awaited & oft delayed but highly anticipated free EP “Trials Of The Blackhearted” has finally touched down. Self Scientifc have easily been one of the greatest Hip Hop duos of the past decade plus. The combined greatness of Chace Infinite and DJ Khalil may be lost on the Hip Hop audience at large but that doesn’t change the fact that in times like these, we need music from groups like Self Scientific.

This EP spans 8 songs and features production by the illustrious DJ Khalil plus guest bars from Talib Kweli (Blackstar/Idle Warship), Krondon (Strong Arm Steady), Freddie Gibbs, Big K.R.I.T . & The Game. Enough words, time to let the music do the talking. Salute to the homies Chace Infinite & DJ Khalil. When the new Self Scientific project drops, PURCHASE IT. Appreciate these dudes while they’re making great music for the masses as opposed to complaining about a lack of “real Hip Hop”. How fans react to releases such as these help to gauge the audience for “real Hip Hop”. Make your voices heard:

DON’T SLEEP: Roy Ayers Project [PROMO VIDEO]

There’s a website which has been set up to promote the upcoming “Roy Ayers Project” documentary. As a 70’s baby, it’s easy for me to recognize what role Roy Ayers’ music has played in my upbringing and adolescent years. Roy Ayers’ music catalog took on a completely different life during my later teenage years into my adulthood as I became involved without making my own music and using elements from his compositions in them. This documentary is dedicated to someone who gave so much to the entire culture of Hip Hop regardless of if you (or others) recognize it or not.

Below is a trailer/testimonies made as promotion for the upcoming Roy Ayers project. The Bobbito Garcia one will be reuploaded after the cigarette smoking part is removed from the original version. Enjoy:

DON’T SLEEP: Hec Dolo “DoloMight!” [BEAT TAPE]

This beat tape dropped back in February. I was following Hec Dolo on Twitter via my Producers I Know account & I checked out the tape and really liked it but I was coordinating two PIK instrumental releases that month and my dumb ass never gave it a proper post. I JUST saw it get RT’d by the Low Budget Crew’s Twitter account and it reminded me that I forgot to post it. Sad but true. In any event, “Dolomight!” is ill. Stream it. Download it. Get high & freestyle to it (He sampled one of my all time favorite Sylvers jawns, too!) It’s yours! © T La Rock

DON’T SLEEP: D-Man “D-Man Files” [NEW PIK MEMBER BANDCAMP PAGE]

The departure of our boy Jeeks left a spot open in Team PIK and I wondered who I could get to fill said spot? I decided to go back and listen to previous Scrunchface Show broadcasts for the answer and it ended up being the cat who has set a record for creating the most Scrunchface Show closers in the almost one year history of the show. It was ultimately a no brainer, D-Man is the newest member of Team PIK.

Hailing from Brockton, MA, D-Man is an up & coming talent and he’s as nice on the mic as he is behind the boards. We already sponsored his first mixtape and his artist J.J. Rome’s mixtape that D-Man produced so it only made sense I just make it official and put him with the squad. Get your asses over to the Producers I Know Bandcamp page & check out D-Man’s slaps. Expect a D-Man Producers I Know instrumental project dropping either this June or July. I’m looking to add another 2 or 3 producers to Team PIK before the summer is up as well…

DON’T SLEEP: Gabe Niles “Still 3roke 3ut Handsome” [BEAT TAPE]

This 24 track, 70 minute beat tape by Gabe Niles was first brought to my attention by Lucas Zimmer over @ Raw Koncept. This beat set stood out immediately dude to the production and the fact Gabe used 3’s for “b’s” instead of substitutes for “e’s” which is the normal protocol. At any rate, rock to this and look out for Gabe Niles in the near future. This shit bangs!

DON’T SLEEP: Depakote “Suicide Watch” [UPCOMING INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

DON’T SLEEP: 80 Blocks From Tiffany’s (Pete Rock x Camp Lo) “Mic Check” [VIDEO]

This is the video for the official lead single for the upcoming 80 Blocks To Tiffany’s self titled project. The cover art leaves much to be desired. The logo? I dunno. I like the song and the video but it’s still hard to get past the poor aesthetics of the single & mixtape cover art. Hopefully, the album’s design is much better. Can’t wait for a definitive release date.

DON’T SLEEP: eLZhi “ELMATIC” [PROMO VIDEO]

The long awaited and highly anticipated eLZhi project “ELMATIC” drops on May 10th, 2011. Yesterday was the 17th anniversary of the release of “Illmatic”, and album that forever changed Hip Hop in many ways. For one, it impacted Nas’ career because many of his fans hoped he’d duplicate the effort by making another “Illmatic”. That would be the equivalent to Michael Jackson making another “Off The Wall” (I know some of you are thinking “Don’t you mean “Thriller”?”. NO. I mean “Off The Wall”. “Off The Wall” was a much better album than “Thriller” in my opinion. Then again, pay me no attention as I’m a Prince fan…) instead of ‘Thriller” (Yes, I consider “It Was Written” to be a step down from “Illmatic”. Then again, pay me no attention as I’m a backpacker…). Here is the promotional video below. I can’t fuckin’ wait, B!

DON’T SLEEP: Random Axe (Sean Price x Guilty Simpson x Black Milk) “The Hex” [SINGLE]

DON’T SLEEP: Willie Evans Jr. “The Fool Pts. 1 & 2” [VIDEO & SINGLE]

The homie Willie Evans Jr. (The AB’s & Dumbtron) is one of the illest emcees & producers in the game right now. His album “Introducin'” will be dropping via High Water Music this summer as well. Not only that, but he dropped this video of him chopping up a classic Stevie Wonder performance on an MPC 1000 and offers a Soundcloud/download link to the completed track with vocals on it. The video below contains “The Fool Pt. 1” but “The Fool Pt. 2” link is here. Salute to Sucio Smash & all the heads @ High Water Music. Don’t sleep on this roster, mayne!

DON’T SLEEP: Evil Needle “Cirrostratus” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

This album is so cotdamb good I wanna make videos for individual tracks and upload them online even though I have absolutely no business doing so whatsoever. I wanna ride the train & sit next to people even on an empty ass car in hopes they ask me what’s playing in my headphones. Son, I wanna steal a car just to whip around with this blasting in the sound system and I CAN’T EVEN DRIVE, B! I will be playing the shit out of this on The Scrunchface Show. Preview it here, download it but cop it if you can to ensure Evil Needle can continue to make this funky ass shit he be makin’. Gloryhallastupid.

DON’T SLEEP: !llmind “Behind The Curtain” [NEW INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM]

The homie !llmind first appeared on my radar when he used to post on UGHH.com and when he produced the classic track “Remind My Soul” for hometown hero Akrobatik. He’s continued to make heatrocks throughout the better part of a decade for a laundry list of my favorite artists and I kept up with his output over the years via Okayplayer & Rappers I Know.

His new instrumental LP “Behind The Curtain” drops digitally and physically on Tuesday via Nature Sounds along with the audio stems from each track included. There was a remix contest involved with this album & below is part one of a promotion video series in which !llmind tells his back story. I met dude in Brooklyn @ the Fat Beats pop up shop for Record Store Day & apologized for never making it to one of his B.L.A.P. events before he rocked. I heard the album, it’s outraaaaaaaaaaaageeous! © Lionel Richie. Cop it!

DON’T SLEEP: Sirkri “2Pac & MJ In Heaven” [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Under normal circumstances if you told me you made a blend/remix project called “2Pac & MJ In Heaven” I would act like you just told me that you’re in cult where you worship a talking cat named Xlyterflux & wear Affliction tees. Sirkri sent me this project a while back and rather than erase the email from a 17 year old beatmaker from Guadeloupe I gave it a listen. I was pleasantly surprised. He just completed the project & sent it to me. I heard it and decided to post it. Enjoy.
