Vlek presents a new iPad MIDI Instrument builder for the iPad developed by Hermutt Lobby called Beatsurfing (video shows Lobby using an iPad 2 to operate Beatsurfing). You can build an instrument and play it, like a partition, in a 1000 different ways. This video features 4 “operators”: the Line, the Circle, the Polygon and the Fader. Each of these operators allows you to build your own MIDI instruments from the ground up as if you were drawing them on the screen. The distribution of the objects and the trajectory of your fingers then help to reintroduce variety and a human feeling to your performance. You can watch these three collected “Beatsurfing” demo videos and if you’re interested in possibly trying out the new Vlek iPad app Beatsurfing it officially hits the Apple Store soon in June 2012. Don’t sleep!

Here’s the homie AFTA-1 performing the track “Gaze” live on his trusty Roland SP 555 a few months ago for the popular “Live At The Loft” series. Don’t sleep…

Brutal Music (Vanderslice Beats x Stu Bangas) will be dropping an upcoming album as “Diggas With Attitude”. The homie Vanderslice previews some beats for the people and discusses some upcoming developments. If you’re interested in hearing more then stay tuned to the Empty Threats Podcast Thursdays @ 10 PM. Vanderslice eschews societal rules, shirts and he samples the fucking “Muppet Babies”. What’s not to like? Don’t sleep…

The Purist teams with Roc Marciano, Action Bronson and Ty Nitty for three tracks called “Change”, “Northern & Roozy” and “Heavy Metal”. You combine these three songs with six instrumentals and the end result is the “Double Feature EP” distributed by King Kong Holding Company. You can cop it digitally via Bandcamp as the vinyl is sold out already. Don’t sleep!

If you’re not up on Ta-Ku by now then I clearly haven’t been doing my job. If you slept on both “D U S T Y Volume 1” & “SCRAPS Vol. 2″ then chances are you have an IQ under 100 and you think Russell Westbrook is a better point guard than Rajon Rondo. Yeah, I went there. Like DeGrassi. Don’t sleep on ” D U S T Y Volume 2″…

Melaz dropped a mix featuring 30 instrumentals from several of PIK’s favorite beat culture luminaries, beatmakers and producers such as Boska, chris∆re, Xperiment Synt, Hexsagon, Feyorz, M. Constant, GLOAM, Potatohead People, Delosbeat, Amable, Blank & Kytt, The Jazzment, Tut-Piece, osø & more. Don’t sleep on “Daydreaming 2”…

I heard Kurt McGirt’s 14 slap collection “Kurtstrumentals Vol. 2” after I saw them on Beat Tape Co-Op earlier this weekend. I liked what I heard and I decided to post them on PIK as well. The more eyes see this and the more ears hear these beats, the better to get Kurt’s name and production out there. Don’t sleep…

Here’s another beat tape I stumbled across. I don’t remember if I found it on a Twitter link or maybe the Strictly Beats comments box but I’m glad I pressed play on this one. I was impressed with what I heard and surprised I’d never heard of these before. Since I don’t do torrents I guess I wouldn’t have until now. Just don’t sleep on “Hearing Kolor 5” and hopefully Frontier will post the first four editions on Bandcamp as well soon..

9th Wonder’s long awaited and heralded beat tape “Tutankhamen” was first announced last year and it was at first thought to contain upwards to 100 beats. Cooler heads prevailed and instead “Tutankhamen” boasts 40 slaps from the Jamla general himself. You can stream and purchase “Tutankhamen” from DJBooth.net right now. I expect it to hit iTunes and Amazon next week. Don’t sleep on it…
Woody drops a project where he remixes a gang of Kanye West track, a few of which that desperately needed remixes. The end result was “Woody x Kanye West: Remixed”. This does bring back some memories of the Kanye West I liked and the new Kanye that makes shit I just can’t get jiggy with. In either event, don’t sleep on “Woody x Kanye West: Remixed” on AudioMack (can’t wait for the embed code to be operational)…

Shadillac had you all open last time around when he dropped his beat tape “Ultra V”. This time his beat tape “Kurt Hustle” will do the job and no, it has nothing to actually do with Kurt Russell. I could actually stand to see a remake for “Escape From New York”, “Tango & Cash”, “Big Trouble In Little China” or “They Live”, though. Don’t sleep…
