DON’T SLEEP: Oddisee f/Tranqill “Ci’iy Life” [VIDEO]

This is the lead video from the upcoming Mello Music Group physical release of the collection of Oddisee’s critically acclaimed “Odd Season” series dropping May 17th. Just to be clear, I gave you all fair warning way back in March. Even before anyone sent out any press releases about it dropping. Next week, do the right thing and cop it. Oddisee. Tranqill. Ci’iy Life. Go here because it refuses to imbed…

DON’T SLEEP: Beatowski Beats “Beat Tape Vol. 0” [FREE BEAT TAPE]

Last year, Latvia producer/beatmaker Beatowski was featured on The Scrunchface Show quite often after “Beat Tape Vol. 1” & “Beat Tape Vol. 2” dropped in late 2010. I’d lost track of Beatowski during the Scrunchface Show’s hiatus so I wasn’t able to play any of it when it dropped back in February as I was planning our Dilla tribute show. I forgot to post it since my bitchass 15″ PowerBook G4 had a serious kernel panic & I moved this folder to an external USB Firewire drive. I found & listened to this last night after the disappointing Celtics overtime loss. Here it is, Beatowski Beats “Beat Tape Vol. 0”. Enjoy…

DON’T SLEEP: Shag “Volume 9: Separation” [BEAT TAPE]

Shag has created an incredible ongoing instrumental series dating all the way back to December 2009. I personally didn’t catch on until he dropped “Vol. 6: Beatnik” in December 2010 and I was impressed to say the least. Shag dropped “Volume 7: Palette” & “Volume 8: Take-Out” in January and February then nothing in March or April. I figured that he was young and he decided to focus on school or what have you. Then he came back with a vengeance a few days ago with “Volume 9: Separation”.

I guess he went through a break up? In any event, it makes for great music. Shag is a teenaged producer with a job as a cashier and a ton of potential so let’s do what we can to help homie cop a Native Instruments Maschine, shall we? Donate to his PayPal @ garsidetogo@gmail.com

DON’T SLEEP: Panama Red “Unlimited” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

Panama Red is better known as @redontheMP to me on Twitter. I got his instrumental project a while back on my 15″ PowerBook G4 before it began having Mac OS kernel panics again. I took every folder off of it and moved it to my trusty Eagle Tech Consus external Firewire USB drive and forgot about it until today when, by chance, I had to go digging for the original mp3 from my original Scrunchface Show broadcast. This is dope! Check out Panama Red’s “Unlimited”. Damn, I slept!

DON’T SLEEP: BostonBeatdown “The Truth Is…” [FREE BEAT TAPE]

Local producer/beatmaker Chris Girolamo dropped this beat tape as a collection of slaps he made on an MPC 2000XL over the past couple of years. Someone shot me the link on Twitter a while back and I downloaded but the computer I had it on died so I moved everything on it to a hard drive last month. While searching for the original mp3 from last year’s first ever archived Scrunchface Show I actually found this beat tape on my USB Firewire drive and gave it a play. Nice! © Borat. Enjoy Boston Beatdown “The Truth Is…”. Go Celtics!

DON’T SLEEP: UBQTS “The Beat Tape” & “Dig.” [BEAT TAPES]

While I was exploring the far reaches of the wondrous machination we call the internet at 6 AM I discovered a Bandcamp that belonged to a Brooklynite beatmaker/producer that goes by the handle UBQTS. The first offering I heard was simply titled “The Beat Tape”. After playing it a couple of times I decided to move on to his his more recent release, the Jazz inspired beat tape called “Dig.”. Needless to say, I was impressed and I decided to post them up here.

I didn’t get to post like I wanted to this weekend because I was so busy do other things so I’ll just fix that by spending most of today catching up and showcasing more jawns that deserve some shine. More beat tapes and instrumental projects are on the way, people.

DON’T SLEEP: Beat Machine Aron “Just Another Day” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

The teenaged Icelandic producer/beatmaker known as Beat Machine Aron posted up his first beat tape/instrumental project a while back called “Just Another Day” that I just recently caught up on via several international beatmaker sites last week. I finally went in on the weekend catching up on some jawns I previously overlooked and this one was at the top of the heap. For only $5 USD you can support an up & coming young talent. Think about it © Special Ed

DON’T SLEEP: Handbook “havefaith” [FREE BEAT TAPE]

More than a week ago, I was swamped with 4 different writing projects and I needed two establish release dates for a few ones on Producers I Know. On Twitter, I got hit up with a post about some cat from the UK named Handbook from Collective Resonance. I RT’d it but I didn’t check the post itself out for days. I heard the mixes posted but I decided to find his back catalog of beat tapes and listen to each myself.

I found his Bandcamp and listened to his 2011 output beginning with “Beat Tape One: Brothers Of Invention”, the “Sundaze EP” and his most recent effort that dropped a few weeks ago, the collection “havefaith”. I liked what I heard so I decided to post it up here @ Producers I Know. Enjoy.

DON’T SLEEP: weirddough “elevatormuzik” [FREE BEAT TAPE]

I stumbled on this new 24 slap beat tape by weirddough on Bandcamp by chance while I was perusing the vast entity called the internet at 5 AM this morning. I liked what I heard and decided to post it here so others could experience it as well: weirddough “elevatormuzik”. Enjoy.

DON’T SLEEP: Doctor Illingsworth “Tales Of Illingsworth Vol. 1: GOOD LUCK” [NEW PROJECT]

Last year, Doc Illingsworth of Detroit CYDI sent me a folder of roughs with him rapping on them on Twitter and asked for my opinion. I told him that they were fine and he should continue along his path. He recently sent me a Bandcamp link as he uploaded 5 of those selections in a collection called “Tales Of Illingsworth Vol. 1: GOOD LUCK”. Enjoy.

DON’T SLEEP: Kaimbr x Kev Brown “Go Green” (prod. by Kev Brown) [VIDEO]

The physical release of Kaimbr x Kev Brown’s “Alexander Green” LP saw the release of two bonus tracks, the Damu The Fudgemunk “Army Fatigue Rap” remix and on the CD itself a jawn called “Go Green” that they not only performed live on Record Store Day but they filmed a great part of the video that day @ the Fat Beats warehouse/pop up shop. Look out for a gang of cameos including one from me. Visuals for “Go Green” are below. The stakes stay high, but the budget is low:

DON’T SLEEP: LATE PASS DAY: Sunclef “The Tesser∆ct” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

This will be the last late pass post of the day. Not because I couldn’t find more late passes, mind you…more because I’m starting to get mad at mayself for sleeping on some such hot shit. Considering that I keep both my ears to the street and my antennae up at all times. How did I miss THIS jawn? It’s actually a funny story, see Elaquent, Luigi @ Hypedog Hip Hop AND the gang @ Rap Ohne Lizenz all told me that it was bananas. So what did I do? I DIDN’T LISTEN TO IT UNTIL LAST NIGHT! That’s when I decided to do this “Late Pass Day” theme for PIK this Thursday.

Now go listen to Sunclef’s “The Tesser∆ct” and realize what an asshole I am. I’ll do this again in the summer. This was fun…

DON’T SLEEP: LATE PASS DAY: El Toro AKA Grace Catcher “Mandala of LOVE EP” [FREE INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

So I stumbled across an instrumental project from some Russian beatmaker named El Toro AKA Grace Catcher. I really liked the first jawn but then I left the house. When I got home I went to a new site. Then another one. Then I popped shit on Twitter. Before I knew it, the Bandcamp page was no longer on my recent Firefox history. Rather than just go into the history archive and FIND the damb site to hear the rest of the project, I slept on it. I went back in my history and found “Mandala Of LOVE” last night. You do the same. Sometimes, I just ain’t about shit, I swear…

DON’T SLEEP: LATE PASS DAY: Jamar Jacobs “The Love Theory” [BEAT TAPE]

Jamar Jacobs is one of Hypedog Hip Hop’s Underdogs, he dropped a Valentine’s Day beat tape and I just slept on it. Hard. Like it was a damb Craftmatic adjustable bed, B. I think I even snored, too. I’m a dumbass and I apologize. Now here’s Jamar Jacob’s “The Love Theory”…Enjoy.

DON’T SLEEP: LATE PASS DAY: BMB AKA Spacekid “Paramind” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

Russian producer Beat-Maker-Beat dropped this ridiculous instrumental project called “Blue Magic (Draft)” that we all went nuts over. During Christmas week someone shot me a link to a supposedly ill collection of blaps by someone called Spacekid. I was up to my neck in Best Of 2010 lists as it was so I blew it off. Months later, I was checking out an interview with Beat-Maker-Beat and it listed his alias as Spacekid. I’m a dickhead. Kate Nash was right about me. Now go listen to BMB AKA Spacekid’s “Paramind”

DON’T SLEEP: LATE PASS DAY: Insightful “The Flowers In My Mind” [FREE INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

This Insightful instrumental project dropped on New Year’s Day while I was writing several Best Of 2010 lists for Bloggerhouse. During this time, I ended up missing out on one of the best instrumental projects of 2011. IRONY! © Faceman. Insightful “The Flowers In My Mind”. How’d I miss this?

DON’T SLEEP: Willie Evans Jr. “Forced Grin (Squeeze Zombies)” [SINGLE]

Willie Evans Jr. will be dropping a free project called “Billy Lotion” May 25th to prepare to people dem for the arrival of his High Water Music debut “Introducin'” that’s dropping on June 21st (the week after “Random Axe” but the week before Pete Rock x Smif N’ Wessun’s “Monumental”). Below are two versions of the lead single off of “Billy Lotion”, a jawn called “Forced Grin (Squeeze Zombies)”. It’s essentially a flip of an Aloe Blacc song from his Stones Throw release “Good Things” and the vocal version is dedicated to Squeeze Radio which we lost last year. Salute to Willie Evans Jr., Sucio Smash, Paten Locke, Fresh Daily, Homeboy Sandman, DJ Spinna & Senor Kaos. Shout out to the entire High Water Music fam. Enjoy…

DON’T SLEEP: LATE PASS DAY: SKYWLKR “Strawberry Cough” [FREE BEAT TAPE]

Last year around this time, Detroit’s own SKYWLKR dropped this incredibly ill beat tape called “Strawberry Cough”. I fucked up and didn’t list it on my 100 best instrumental projects and beat tapes lists on Bloggerhouse. Do me a favor and listen to this jawn then tell me how much of a dumbass I was/am. SKYWLKR “Strawberry Cough”. I’ll be doing this all day…
