DON’T SLEEP: Tightface “Treasures Of The Five Boroughs” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

Alex Chase of One Handed Music alerted me to this one and I was pleasantly surprised. I had heard Tightface’s name before but never peep any of his work before the link was sent. I feel like an ass for sleeping on this but I’ll be damned if it ever happens again. The Soundcloud link should be just below (yeah, I just realized all I had to do was embed it). Enjoy:

DON’T SLEEP: Coleman & Ta’Raach “L.A. Series #9” & Exile & Free The Robots “L.A. Series #10” [NEW INSTRUMENTAL PROJECTS]

All City Records in Dublin have released some of my favorite jawns of the past three or so years. There was the 7×7 Beatstrumentals Series, Knxwledge’s “Klouds”, Onra’s “Long Distance” and let’s not forget the “L.A. Series” that’s drawing to a close with these two final releases by Coleman & Ta’Raach then Exile & Free The Robots. The entire “L.A. Series” showcases the premiere beatmakers and producers currently in Los Angeles. All 10 releases are occupying space in my illustrious iPod Touch as I write this very piece.

Get your heads out of your asses (assuming that they’re there of course, if not just assume that I’m an asshole that’s really passionate about music) and cop these two releases post haste. Also check out All City Dublin’s entire back catalog. Thank you.

DON’T SLEEP: B.Lewis “Science Within Reason” [FREE INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

B.Lewis‘ “Science Within Reason” is 30 tracks of HOLYFUCKINGSHITGODDAMNMOTHERFUCKER. This is the textbook definition of scrunchface music rightchea. I try to refrain from headbutting Sunday school teachers like a damb soccer hooligan when this jawn is playing in my Sony MDR-NC7’s. Ladies, you may or may not get pregnant listening to this music. With or without a partner even being present so take a pill or strap up or whatever the hell you ladies do. Love synths? Love drums? Love melody? Download “Science Within Reason” right now then you dumbass! Wooooooo! © Ric Flair

DON’T SLEEP: Has Lo “In Case I Don’t Make It” [ALBUM]

This post is pretty personal for me because sometime last year our boy producer/emcee Has-Lo was on the air with us on The Scrunchface Show talking about this very same project. Eric & Travis had heard it and swore by it. They hit me off with it and I was floored that a project like this not only didn’t have a home but the previous label owner that heard it balked at releasing it because he didn’t know how to market it.

I would throw his bitchass under the bus but  if you’ve been paying attention you already know whom I’m referring to.That doesn’t matter, what does matter is “In Case I Don’t Make It” reminded us of another classic album that was homeless when we first heard it. That album was called “Gas Mask”. “Gas Mask” has since been regarded as one of the best albums of 2010 by everyone with opinions that actually matter to me.

Mike over at Mello Music Group group heard the album and felt the exact same way we did about it. Now, on March 29th “In Case I Don’t Make It”, an album I’ve been playing for about a year in my headphones will finally be available to the public at large so they too will finally appreciate the brilliance of our boy Has-Lo as much as we already do. Preview the album on iTunes, pre-order it on Amazon or UGHH. In the meantime, peep Has-Lo’s “Antelopes & Lions” mixtape to tide you over until the LP drops on March 29th, 2011.

DON’T SLEEP: Jay Electronica “The Making Of Act II” [VIDEO]

The people want “Act II: Patents Of Nobility”. Jay Electronica has insisted that it was coming but it wasn’t ready yet last year when he played some unfinished tracks for a few of his people. Angela Yee told me it wasn’t ready but big things were in the works when I asked her about it last year. Then Jay Electronica signed with Roc Nation and his original plans to release a project via his  Dogon Society/Decon imprint were up in the air. According to Just Blaze the plan will move forward but it just needs to be adjusted. In any event, Jay travels to Africa & records a track for the long awaited project. This clip features the vocalist LaTonya Givens. Jay said it’s coming. It’s coming. Stay tuned. ARE YOU WATCHING CLOSELY?

DON’T SLEEP: Blackberry Jones f/yU of Diamond District “The LifeLine” (Installment 1) [VIDEO]

Back in December 2009, on Rappers I Know I saw a video of BlackBerry Jones do some of the illest chops I seen live in recent memory. He’s back at it but this time he’s pulled the lyricist yU of Diamond District fame (“In The Ruff” & “Before Taxes”) to spit over his creation. The result is illmatic. If you want to keep up with Blackberry Jones follow him on Twitter. Installment 2 soon come…

Ron Dance is a Philadelphia transplant that lives in Detroit. He’s a member of the group 101 with Marv Won & Ro Spit. He’s made a couple of projects that I’ve reviewed in the past. He wears vests. He has a Dominican barber on call 24/7 who has clippers and trimmers with laser mounts on them. He also has a Ustream show that I often tune into just to crack on him. All that said, he has yet to make anything I didn’t like. This project he made with Bloggerhouse favorite & Scrunchface Show regular, producer Nameless is NO different. I present to you all Ron Dance x Nameless “Flidelphia: The In Crowd”.

DON’T SLEEP: Peace Of Mind x The Beat Illz “While My Akai Gently Weeps” [PIK EXCLUSIVE/FREE INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]

I first heard a track from this project months ago and I was absolutely blown away. I played it on The Scrunchface Show and the response was crazy. I played another slap from it the following week and I’m proud to announce that Peace Of Mind just hit me off with the new completed project titled “Peace Of Mind x The Beat Illz “While My Akai Gently Weeps” based around the music of The Beatles which are one of my favorite all time groups.
