DON’T SLEEP: Producers I Know x D-Man “I Want Her…But She Has Standards And High Self Esteem Tho… ” (prod. by D-Man) [SINGLE]
Between September 15th and October 15th we enter into what’s now universally known as Cuffing Season. Like myself and D-Man (and anything awesome for that matter) Cuffing Season has it’s roots in Massachusetts. It was pioneered by a young man who became a Massachusetts nautical legend and Black History Month trivia question answer Paul Cuffee. Rather than wait for the traditional courting season (which began around Thanksgiving in the colonies), he began pursuing ladies right after the Summer ended and the weather changed. Many men discovered that they were late when they went courting because another man had used “Ye Olde Cuffee” and claimed her already in either September or October.
This Summer, D-Man and I delivered “Son I Had Crazy Visions: A Guide To Rockin’ N*ggas This Summer”. Now here’s the companion piece “Cuffing Season Has Returned”. 15 slaps that walk you through the many stages and moods that accompany Cuffing Season all across this great nation of ours (but it all started HERE. With this Black guy). Look out for “Cuffing Season Has Returned” here and on the Producers I Know Bandcamp. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Producers I Know x Pollymore Music Group x Jacob Family presents “The Dre Robinson Files: Rare Freestyles” [MIXTAPE]
G. Valentino Ball (KillerBoombox, That’s Major): “Good things can come from Twitter. Not too long ago respected blogger and walking Google of Boston Hip Hop history, Dart Adams was tweeted about his homemade mixtape of Dre’s freestyles from his appearances with Geespin and DJ Chubby Chub. We talked to Dart and now you get some of Dre’s heaviest bars. This bit of nostalgia should get you ready for Dre’s new project, “Starvin 3.5: This Is Me” on October 10th. Below Dart gives a little background on the joint.”

Back around 2004, Boston had finally amassed a number of emcees from it’s new generation with the potential to make noise on a national level. Among them were Frankie Wainwright (Team 220), Lou Armstrong (Hitmakers), Slaine, Smoke Bulga (Rushya/Phastlife) and Dre Robinson (Pollymore/Jacob Family). I used to work in a 24 hour CVS in the Beacon Hill area of Boston during the 11 PM to 8 AM shift. Word got out that there was a dude that worked there that knew a hell of a lot about Hip Hop. Over the 3 years I worked there I met quite a lot of notable people during the late night hours.
I always asked by out of towners (that were often prompted to drive to Boston to test the veracity of the then new film “Blue Hill Avenue”) who the hottest up & coming emcees were in Boston. My reaction would often be to play a grip of CD’s or mixtapes that contained tracks from some of the previously mentioned emcees. One of them was a CD that contained radio rips of live Dre Robinson freestyles that he performed on local radio stations Hot 97 & JAMN 94.5. When I first met Dre Robinson in person, I told him that years ago I used to play a CD of his freestyles for heads that wanted to hear who were the hottest up & coming emcees in Boston.

Dre Robinson’s star took off and he’s since become one of the most recognizable and respected emcees in Boston Hip Hop. Even then, I still reflect on the ferocious bars he spit live on those visits to The Launch Pad or on the Saturday Night Jump Off back in 2004 and 2005. I was digging through a stack of demos that i received during those years about a month ago and I found the same exact CD containing those same freestyles from Dre’s old “Starvin” mixtape days to the freestyles on the classic Spotlight DVD’s to the infamous Barbershop Battles.
Now you all get to simultaneously hear how Dre Robinson has managed to stay the same hungry emcee he was back in the days and understand how long he’s been ill at this rappin’ shit. As for this project right here? It’s Greg’s fault & I just brought the product. Enjoy. Salute.

DON’T SLEEP: Peace Of Mind “Peace Of Mind Files” [NEW TEAM PIK MEMBER PAGE]
As I typically do when I try to determine who the next member of Team PIK is, I survey the past & present landscape for beatmakers and producers that I’ve dealt with extensively or have come across with a high level of potential, ability, drive and an inherent love for their craft and the art involved. Every member of Team PIK I’ve selected shares these things in common.
Peace Of Mind already fit that bill, but after I heard his beat tape “Laces Out”, it was only a matter of time before I extended him an invitation to join Team PIK. Without any further ado, I present to you Peace Of Mind’s “Peace Of Mind Files” page on Producers I Know’s Bandcamp. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Shag “Flyrule” [BEAT TAPE]
So I’m writing this long ass diatribe about how much I hate “Watch The Throne” and I get an email from my boy & Team PIK member Shag saying he just sent me a link to a beat tape I might wanna fuck with but the “may” was capitalized. I was wondering “What did he make it out of that I’d not wanna fuck with it?”. I opened the email and I saw the beat tape was called “Flyrule”.
I clicked the link and it was a beat tape based on the music from The Legend Of Zelda games! I said “Oh shit! That’s ill! And told my brother who said “I thought of doing that when I played “The Ocarina Of Time”!”. I then sent him back an email full of swears (I black out sometimes) asking why WOULDN’T I fuck with it? End result is it’s already his most successful beat tape. I present to you all “Flyrule”. DON’T SLEEP!
