DON’T SLEEP: Shag “Keys” [BEAT TAPE]
Shag’s done a lot since I put him down with Team PIK back in the Summer. He released several beat tapes, instrumental projects and mixes. He moved out and began college. He somehow got even better as a beatmaker and a producer in a relatively short amount of time. Here is his latest effort with an assist from the good people over @ The Find Magazine. Shag’s “Keys” is an amazing testament to his growth. Don’t sleep on it…

DON’T SLEEP: Pete Cannon “Commodore 64, Ableton & MAX MSP” [BEAT VIDEO]
Team PIK member Pete Cannon is an unadulterated musical genius. As a kid & young teen I often used a Commodore 64. I had the tape drive, disk drive and a 300 baud modem before we balled out and copped a 1200 baud modem years later. Even when I spent years playing “Dr. J vs. Larry Bird” and “Omega Race” I NEVER ONCE imagined that 25 years or more later a producer across the pond would find a way to modify one into a synth for Dubstep/Wobble. Salute. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: PIK x D-Man “Cuffing Season Has Returned” [INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT]
Here it finally is! “Cuffing Season Has Returned” is the official soundtrack to the Fall and Cuffing Season all contained in one ambitious instrumental project. The beats came courtesy of wunderkind producer D-Man and the sequencing, song titles and overall project concept was all my idea. “Cuffing Season Has Returned” is a chronological beat tape so to speak walking you through the stages of Cuffing Season. It gets colder, the boots come out you get your holler on. Then the thigh high boots come out and it gets even colder and you realize that it’s time to step your game up a few notches before all the cuffworthy and cuffable ladies done been cuffed up.
Well, it’s October 15th, meaning that it’s officially Cuffing Season everywhere in this great nation of ours where the seasons actually change. You can find this project on Bandcamp, SoundCloud AND MediaFire (For the beat heads there’s even a samples mix!). THE CHOICE IS YOURS! © Dres. Also…DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Producers I Know x D-Man “I Want Her…But She Has Standards And High Self Esteem Tho… ” (prod. by D-Man) [SINGLE]
Between September 15th and October 15th we enter into what’s now universally known as Cuffing Season. Like myself and D-Man (and anything awesome for that matter) Cuffing Season has it’s roots in Massachusetts. It was pioneered by a young man who became a Massachusetts nautical legend and Black History Month trivia question answer Paul Cuffee. Rather than wait for the traditional courting season (which began around Thanksgiving in the colonies), he began pursuing ladies right after the Summer ended and the weather changed. Many men discovered that they were late when they went courting because another man had used “Ye Olde Cuffee” and claimed her already in either September or October.
This Summer, D-Man and I delivered “Son I Had Crazy Visions: A Guide To Rockin’ N*ggas This Summer”. Now here’s the companion piece “Cuffing Season Has Returned”. 15 slaps that walk you through the many stages and moods that accompany Cuffing Season all across this great nation of ours (but it all started HERE. With this Black guy). Look out for “Cuffing Season Has Returned” here and on the Producers I Know Bandcamp. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Peace Of Mind “Peace Of Mind Files” [NEW TEAM PIK MEMBER PAGE]
As I typically do when I try to determine who the next member of Team PIK is, I survey the past & present landscape for beatmakers and producers that I’ve dealt with extensively or have come across with a high level of potential, ability, drive and an inherent love for their craft and the art involved. Every member of Team PIK I’ve selected shares these things in common.
Peace Of Mind already fit that bill, but after I heard his beat tape “Laces Out”, it was only a matter of time before I extended him an invitation to join Team PIK. Without any further ado, I present to you Peace Of Mind’s “Peace Of Mind Files” page on Producers I Know’s Bandcamp. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Shag “Flyrule” [BEAT TAPE]
So I’m writing this long ass diatribe about how much I hate “Watch The Throne” and I get an email from my boy & Team PIK member Shag saying he just sent me a link to a beat tape I might wanna fuck with but the “may” was capitalized. I was wondering “What did he make it out of that I’d not wanna fuck with it?”. I opened the email and I saw the beat tape was called “Flyrule”.
I clicked the link and it was a beat tape based on the music from The Legend Of Zelda games! I said “Oh shit! That’s ill! And told my brother who said “I thought of doing that when I played “The Ocarina Of Time”!”. I then sent him back an email full of swears (I black out sometimes) asking why WOULDN’T I fuck with it? End result is it’s already his most successful beat tape. I present to you all “Flyrule”. DON’T SLEEP!
