UK producer/beatmaker 12 Original Players has been on my radar for quite a while but oddly enough I haven’t posted anything of his before on Producers I Know although I follow him on both Twitter and SoundCloud and he’s nice with it. I decided to begin with his “Birthday Beat Bonanza” series where he makes beats and films the entire process for his family members’ birthdays. Since today is my niece’s birthday and I can recall making beats and songs for her when she was younger I felt it only right to begin here. DON’T SLEEP!

I’ve been a fan of Symbolyc One’s production going back to the early days of Strang Fruit Project whom I first learned about on Okayplayer circa 2005. Here it is, 2011 and now S1 is one of the most well knownand hottest producers in the game. Here’s a video I didn’t post previously on Producers I Know because I couldn’t figure out how to embed Vimeo or MixCloud on here back when it first hit. Now that the “Watch The Throne” hype has finally died down I think it makes sense to play it now. DON’T SLEEP!

Here’s a video ESTA recently uploaded that breaks down his beat creation process. Apparently he uses GarageBand and adds on with synths and keyboards to make his slaps extra funky and whatnot. I typically use GarageBand to make ringtones. More evidence that ESTA is better than you at beatmaking? I’ve added three new slaps from his SoundCloud page called “Gold”, TRAPMUZIK” and “YouTube Beat” to this post so the entire batmaking process video has a proper context. DON’T SLEEP!

It features guest appearances from Cise Starr, Pase Rock, Substantial, Uyama Hiroto and Haruka Nakamura and promises to be a beautiful collection of Nujabes material. Welcome to the “RE: GENERATION Project”. In it, 5 well known and highly respected DJ’s are asked to immerse themselves in a genre of music completely counter to the one they specialize in and produce a song in said genre. DJ Premier will tackle Classical, Pretty Lights tackles Country, Crystal Method is tasked with creating classic R&B in the vein of the Motown Sound, Mark Ronson was given Jazz (not too much of a stretch) and Skrillex was assigned Rock.
This project was arranged in association with The Grammys and Hyundai. I discovered it when I was talking to my boy G. Valentino Ball outside Church in Boston a while back and he told me that DJ Premier was working on a classic song with Berklee College Of Music students and Nas for The Grammys. In addition to the new Hulk Hodn x Hubert Daviz double vinyl (that isn’t available for purchase digitally until November 4th, 2011) “Kaseta” ENTBS/Entourage of Germany also released an impressive limited vinyl soundtrack for a German stage play “Irgendwas Mit Medien” that I think you had to purchase in person at the venue during and after performances. In any event, I ended up with a copy and it’s fuckin’ amazing. If you can get your hands on this “Irgendwas Mit Medien OST” from ENTBS/Entourage with production by Hulk Hodn, Hubert Daviz, Noyland, Retrogott & Romeo Jesus then bless you. It’s hard as hell to find but SO worth it. Don’t sleep…
