One mo’ gin’! Today’s beat submission to the Roy Ayers Project was made by RenRok and is called “RBG”, a flip of  Roy Ayers’ “Red, Black & Green’. Listen to RenRok’s “RBG” here and if you’d possibly like to submit your own Roy Ayers inspired beat, chop or filp then please take the time to first read the site’s beat submission guidelines. Afterwards, you can feel free to submit your slap or composition to RoyAyersProject[at]gmail[dot]com. Good luck and don’t sleep!

Jose James’ 2010 Brownswood Recordings release “BLACKMAGIC” was one of the best albums of the year as well as one of the best modern R&B/Soul albums of the past 5 years. In 2011, Jose James is back with “Trouble”. “Trouble” is produced by Jose James and I also offer you the Oh No remix version of “Trouble”. His 2012 album “No Beginning, No End” is gonna be a MONSTER. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Side Brain “Monome + Arcade + SL Mk2” & “PILPILPIL” [BEAT VIDEOS]

Side Brain’s live beat videos are the stuff of legend. I could literally watch them all afternoon long if I didn’t have so much shit to do. Here are two more where Side Brain’s trusty Novation SL Mk2 and his trademark Dreamcast Arcade Stick controller get quite the workout. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Keor Meteor “Poverty”, “Home Studiowner” & “Bankers & Aliens” (prod. by Keor Meteor) [INSTRUMENTALS]

Here are three new slaps from the SoundCloud page of Keor Meteor, the Parisian producer/beatmaker whose made quite a few eyebrow raising instrumental releases thus far in 2011 (“The Grey Level”, “The Manchurian Candidate”, “Cornerstone Cashiers” and “The 8th Library” among them) so it’s no surprise that “Poverty”, “Home Studiowner” and “Bankers & Aliens” all bang. Shout out to DJ Ivan6 and DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Bugseed “pizza pizza” (prod. by Bugseed) [INSTRUMENTAL]

DON’T SLEEP: Nujabes “Spiritual State” [NEW UPCOMING ALBUM]

Japanese Hip Hop/Soul/R&B production legend Nujabes’ posthumous album “Spiritual State” will drop December 3rd, 2011 via HydeOut Productions. It features guest appearances from Cise Starr, Pase Rock, Substantial, Uyama Hiroto and Haruka Nakamura and promises to be a beautiful collection of Nujabes material. You can pre-order “Spritual State” direct from HydeOut Productions or Tower Records in Japan as it’s currently a Japan only release and probably won’t see an American release (possibly through iTunes) until early 2012. Rest in eternal peace Jun Seba. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Hyundai Veloster x The Grammys “RE:GENERATION” [PROMO VIDEOS]

Welcome to the “RE: GENERATION Project”.  In it, 5 well known and highly respected DJ’s are asked to immerse themselves in a genre of music completely counter to the one they specialize in and produce a song in said genre. DJ Premier will tackle Classical, Pretty Lights tackles Country, Crystal Method is tasked with creating classic R&B in the vein of the Motown Sound, Mark Ronson was given Jazz (not too much of a stretch) and Skrillex was assigned Rock.

This project was arranged in association with The Grammys and Hyundai. I discovered it when I was talking to my boy G. Valentino Ball outside Church in Boston a while back and he told me that DJ Premier was working on a classic song with Berklee College Of Music students and Nas for The Grammys. Go to the RE:GENERATION website for proper updates and further information. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie “Viu Z Viu Riwärb” (co-prod. by Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie) [SINGLE]

Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie are a young production duo that are signed to Chief’s Feelin’ Music label. Here’s the lead single to their upcoming proper debut release “Astro Funk & Weltfrieden” which drops on November 25th, 2011. I was pretty impressed by their initial Feelin’ Music project “Treeology EP”  and I can’t wait to hear this jawn either. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: ENTBS “Irgendwas Mit Medien” OST [NEW PROJECT]

In addition to the new Hulk Hodn x Hubert Daviz double vinyl (that isn’t available for purchase digitally until November 4th, 2011) “Kaseta” ENTBS/Entourage of Germany also released an impressive limited vinyl soundtrack for a German stage play “Irgendwas Mit Medien” that I think you had to purchase in person at the venue during and after performances. In any event, I ended up with a copy and it’s fuckin’ amazing. If you can get your hands on this “Irgendwas Mit Medien OST” from ENTBS/Entourage with production by Hulk Hodn, Hubert Daviz, Noyland, Retrogott & Romeo Jesus then bless you. It’s hard as hell to find but SO worth it. Don’t sleep…

DON’T SLEEP: OffBeatKiD “Compilation Vol. 2” [BEAT TAPE]

I was completely ignorant of this release from the Russian Federation until Hypedog asked me if I heard it before this afternoon on Twitter and sent me a link. Needless to say I’ve been playing it and Tony Ozier back to back with “Kaseta”. This vibey, Jazz inspired beat tape is bananas. DON’T SLEEP!

Holy shit! Tall Black Guy has had on hell of a 2011 thus far. The instrumental projects/beat tapes. The placement on Brownswood Bubblers Seven. The Darling Lure album and now his recent releases, the latest being this First Word Records single “Dance Forever”/”The Return Of Here & Now”. These jawns are incredibly funky, you can cop the vinyl if you feel so inclined. DON’T SLEEP!

The Find Magazine & The Soul Dojo teamed together with respected DJ Phatrick to present a mix of Trebles & Blues material to the good little beat fanatics worldwide. DON’T SLEEP: Samon Kawamura “Tuk Tuk” & “Thaima” (prod. by Samon Kawamura) [INSTRUMENTALS]

Samon Kawamura (“Translations” & “Unfold”) has a new project in the works called “Thaima”, a 25 slap opus crafted from Thai source materials that’s supposedly dropping later on this October. In addition he has an ongoing series titled “Spur Of The Moment” although I have no clue what label it’s dropping on (if any), when “Thaima” will be available for purchase or where you can purchase it from (the lack of pre-order links or information is both refreshing and frustrating). Being that Samon hasn’t released a project since i was making my old 17″ PowerBook G4 burst into flames while writing for Poisonous Paragraphs this should be hella interesting. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Buff Swagwell “The Voices…” (prod. by Buff Shagwell) [INSTRUMENTAL]

It wasn’t that long ago that I was frequenting the site Hypedog Hip Hop and going back and forth with fellow Blap afficinado LuigiBo about new producers, beat tapes, instrumental albums and the magic box commonly known as the Native Instruments Maschine. Then Lu went out and copped one, spent considerable time honing his skills until Buff Swagwell emerged with the first track he’s posted up for public consumption called “The Voices…”. I dig it. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: Memorecks “Downtime” [BEAT TAPE]

Unless you’ve been living under a rock and aren’t familiar with the Canadian beatmaker Memorecks or his insane beat videos I’ve featured on Producers I Know then you’d know he’s a monster of the beat scene and live performance circuit. He recently dropped a 19 blap instrumental poject called “Downtime” via Bankrush Records that you can download for free.99. Get thee to The Find Magazine and download it right now. DON’T SLEEP!

DON’T SLEEP: HARD-OFF BEATS COMPETITION (JAPAN) [DOCUMENTARY]

While I was looking for news regarding the “1000 Yen Beats Vinyl Attack!” documentary I instead stumbled on the full HARD-OFF BEATS documentary where Japanese beatmakers/producers Tofubeats, OKADADA, フーミン (fuminggg) & いじりー (tales of easily) all go head to head digging for records and flipping samples in the spirit of the incredible beat competition documentaries “King Of The Beats” and “Secondhand Sureshots”.

I don’t understand Japanese although I’ve been watching Anime and films in Japanese since I was 9 without subtitles but you can kinda figure out what’s happening anyways. Music is a universal language. Watch and enjoy since I need to buy the “1000 Yen Beats Vinyl Attack!” DVD apparently. Also, don’t sleep…

The homie Nick Tha 1da’s upcoming Mello Music Group LP “Give The Drummer None” will drop soon but until then one of the best beatmakers/producers on the beltway has decided to bless us all with a series of beat videos that come under the title “Thrice A Day”. The first demonstrates his skill with an SP 303 and in the second he expresses his love for all things X-Men related. This cat was famous for his YouTube beat videos as well as his legendary showings at several DMV area beat battles over the years. DON’T SLEEP!
